New Consumer Product Safety Commission Regulations

As many of you are aware of in the toy and gift industry there have been some major legislative changes regarding limiting the amount of lead allowed in children's products as well as prohibiting the sale of certain products containing phthalates. (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, H.R. 4040) These standards went into effect February 10, 2009. These are the following changes that are part of the new CPSIA:

  • More stringent requirements for children's products that have lead-based paints
  • An amendment to the prior section requiring third-party testing
  • Tracking labels
  • The requirement that labels inform a consumer of a cautionary statement that is already required
PBC International, Inc. wants to assure all of our customers that we test each and every one of our products to ensure they meet the safety standards accorded to by law. PBC has always abided by all U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regarding lead-based paint and phthalates, and continues to meet the new regulations outlined in the CPSIA. We are proud to say we have never issued a single recall on any of our products during the 30 years we have been in business.

Again, we want to assure all of our customers that PBC International, Inc. puts great importance on the safety of our products and will continue to do so into the future. If you have questions regarding the Technical Reports on any of our products, please call Dori Neff at (805) 988-0200.

* Please note, existing inventory in our warehouse prior to November 2008, though compliant with all existing product standards prior to the new CPSIA regulations, will not necessarily be listed on the website unless, or until, new stock is ordered. At this time the product will be subject to the new testing required by the CPSIA and will be posted thereafter on our website.

If there is an item on our web site without benefit of a new or current registration number, it is because the item was manufactured and in our warehouse before November of 2008 and is not subject to the latest CPSIA regulations.
